- A dollar cap you name in the first call
- Delivery through the school, not to the family's door
What to say
"I'm a neighbor, not a group. I've got about $150 and a truck this Saturday. Is there one family right now short on beds, uniforms, or groceries that I could just handle?"
Pitfalls
- Say your number out loud. Specialists can't match you to a need they can't size.
- Let the school hand it over. The family keeps their privacy and their dignity.
- Ask again in January. Everybody gives in November and the need doesn't stop.
