Mentor a Jobs for Life Class
Jobs for Life pairs each student with a champion who walks them through the class, the resume, the interview, and the first ninety days on the job.
What you'll need
- A local Jobs for Life site, usually run through a church
- Eight weeknights on the calendar, plus training beforehand
- Your actual network, which is the part they can't get anywhere else
Pitfalls
- Stay past graduation. The first ninety days on a new job is where it falls apart, not the class.
- Make introductions, don't just give advice. A name and a phone number is the whole gift.
- Show up every week. Missing two nights tells them what they already expect.
