Many shelters now offer βdoggy day outβ programs β sign one out, take them to a park or coffee shop, bring them back at night. The dog gets a real day. You get a slow afternoon with a creature who is simply happy you exist.
Walk a Dog at the Shelter
Most municipal shelters let walk-ins take dogs out for a stretch with thirty minutes of orientation. Your hour is the best part of that dog's week.
Pitfalls
- Don't bring your own dog along on the first visit.
- Don't post pictures of dogs that look sad β it makes adoption harder.
- Don't go once and never again. They will remember you.
